Zoya Mod Mattes For the Win!

Zoya Phoebe

Mattes. How do you feel? I know even in the beginning of the matte polish trend, it was a love it or hate it thing. Now, I hear people saying the matte trend is over. To those people, I say, NEVER!!!!! For example, take in the beauty of the following post and then try to tell me the matte trend is over.

Zoya Phoebe

When I first saw the promo pictures of the Zoya Mod Mattes, I was really pumped. I wear matte polish more often than I'd like to admit, due to the fact that I'm always running late when I go out. Rather than go with bare nails (it's very shocking for my friends to glimpse my naked nails), I slap on two coats of a matte polish. Matte polishes dry ridiculously fast and you're not supposed to wear a base or top coat with them either! However, most of the mattes I own are fall/winter colors. I have one pastel mint green from KnockOut Cosmetics and the rest are dark or jewel-toned. Zoya Mod Mattes, on the other hand, are super bright colors that scream SUMMER!! Let's take a look!

Zoya Phoebe

Zoya Phoebe

First up, and, as I tweeted this evening, hands down the BEST matte I have ever used, is Zoya Phoebe. I am about to upload a ridic amount of pictures of this one polish, but I did not take one picture where this polish looked bad. So I'm posting them all!

Zoya Phoebe

Phoebe is a swimming pool blue matte shimmer. It was super thin upon application, which is really unheard of for mattes. Mattes tend to be pretty thick and chunky. Phoebe was as thin as any other Zoya and flowed on to the nail beautifully. Some mattes dry so quickly you can't even get your three brushstrokes in, and this makes the polish look uneven and streaky. Not Phoebe! Phoebe stayed wet quite long enough to evenly coat my nail, and then dried quickly after that. I can tell I'll be sporting this one ALL summer long. It's odd, I read some bloggers who said that Phoebe applied the best of all three Mod Mattes, but they failed to mention exactly how amazingly it applied. In my opinion, Phoebe is as easy to use as a regular (non-matte) Zoya polish, and that is certainly saying something!

Zoya Lolly

Next up is Zoya Lolly. While Phoebe was my favorite of the three, Lolly ain't no slouch herself! Lolly is a bright, almost hot pink, Barbie pink matte that I can also see myself wearing a lot this summer. Bloggers have compared it to OPI La Paz-itively Hot matte, but I think they are totally different colors (will do a comparison later) and Lolly does not have shimmer.

As you can see, I took a ton of pictures of this one too! I really like the color with my skin tone. I think the bottom two pictures are the best representation of the actual color. Those were taken outside, but not in direct sunlight. Lolly applied almost as easily as Phoebe. It was very thin, which still surprises me for a matte polish. You can see in some spots it's not 100% completely smooth as a regular creme finish polish would be, but it's pretty close and looks gorgeous! Matte bright lips were a huge runway trend for this summer, and I think matte pink nails are a good option for those of us who are scared of matte hot pink lips!

Zoya Mitzi

Finally, we have Zoya Mitzi. Obviously Mitzi is a color right up my alley. Bold yellow-green chartreuse matte= heaven! I love to wear obnoxiously bright polish like this in the summer. It makes me happy and feel energetic. Some bloggers have compared this to OPI Who The Shrek Are You? but I think it's quite a bit brighter than that. And cooler cause it's matte! You can see in the second picture above that Mitzi looks less bright in dim indoor light.

Zoya Mitzi

Mitzi was a bit thicker than Phoebe and Lolly. Maybe not as think as other mattes I've used, but definitely not thin like a regular Zoya. It also did not apply quite as easily as the other two. You just have to use a little more caution with Mitzi. Thick coats seems to work best, as well as letting it dry all the way in between coats. The fewer strokes you can do on your nails, the smooother it will come out.

Overall, I give this collection an 9/10(Phoebe and Lolly were both 10/10 and Mitzi was a 7/10, so that averaged out to 9)! I do wish Mitzi had applied as AMAZING as Phoebe and Lolly did and I hope Zoya will release more mattes in the same formula as those two. These are gorgeous colors for summer and even better if you love mattes, like I do. If you haven't liked how other mattes have applied, definitely give Phoebe a try. If you love all three colors, Zoya came out with a mini set of all three for only $15!
