Today's post features my very first experience with Deborah Lippmann polish, Across the Universe. I have been eyeing Across the Universe and it's fellow glitter buddy Bad Romance (you know I'm a little monster, so I totally want that just for the name) for quite some time. I ordered my favorite face mask from Apothica.com a few weeks ago and threw Across the Universe in the cart for fun!

Across the Universe is a deep navy blue jelly-ish polish with small blue glitter and large turquoise blue and green sequin glitter pieces. This is four coats of polish in all pictures. I understand that the base had to be a bit sheer so that the glitter wouldn't get buried, but I normally am not a fan of applying four coats. At three coats, you could see the glitter quite nicely, but for me it was odd-looking as there was SO much nail showing through. Here at four coats, the glitter is a bit less prominent, but it is more opaque.

I have to say, I am a little bit on the fence about this polish. I'll definitely wear it a lot in the fall and winter, because I love me a dark blue and it does have the nice sequin glitter in it. However, as I said, I don't like doing four coats of polish. And I wasn't really loving it at three coats. I'm not sure if I LOVE it at four coats either. I'm glad I bought this, as it's been a lemming for a LONG time, but at this point I'm not as in love with it as I thought I'd be. On a positive note, the application was excellent! Super smooth and easy. The sequins went right on the nail, I didn't have to work hard to position them like you do with other sequin polishes.

Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe is available online at Apothica.com.
This polish was purchased with funds from my sponsor, Apothica.com. I have no idea if I am supposed to disclose this, but I did anyway! For more information, please see my Disclosure Policy.

try it over a dark blue like CG First Mate!
I tried it over CG Dorothy Who? and it was insanely gorgeous...
I will definitely try layering it, thanks for the suggestions ladies. I didn't realize it would need to be layered, I thought I had seen swatches of it alone, but they were probably 4-5 coats.
2 coats look good on my nail wheel, but not so much on an actual nail.
Yeah, I tried it alone and was severely let down, it just looked nothing like I thought it would. But trust me, over DW?, it's insane haha.
Also, Kleancolor's Blue Eyed Girl reminds me of his, but with bigger sequins. It's really pretty:]
I always layer Lippmann Polishes. I love Across the Universe over OPI Russian Navy and Bad Romance over any black. Just makes the glitter pop!
Thanks for all the layering suggestions. I am definitely going to give this another go because A. it's so pretty in the bottle! and B. it was pricey LOL
I think it might look cool over a really light blue or even a white as well! May have to try that out!
it looks perfect to me. the night sky with shiny blue stars:)
