OPI Fifty Shades of Grey Collection Swatches and Review

 *Sent for review*

I have three categories of books that I typically like to read. 1. Young adult fiction, like the Harry Potter or Percy Jackson books. 2. Adult action/adventure fiction with a little history/science thrown in there (think Clive Cussler, Steve Berry). 3. Cat mysteries. So it's pretty obvious that I have never read Fifty Shades of Grey, nor do I intend to see the movie. However, I can still rock the OPI Fifty Shades of Grey nail polish collection being released to tie in with the upcoming movie. First up in the collection, we have OPI My Silk Tie, a light metallic silver. My Silk Tie is a bit paler than some of the silver metallics we've seen OPI do recently. I reach for metallic silvers quite often, so I never mind having another one myself.

This is three coats of My Silk Tie. I thought it was less pigmented than OPI's other recent metallic silvers. The first coat was very sheer and I really did need the third coat for full opacity. The formula is a good consistency and easy to apply, but does have some visible brushstrokes that are hard to avoid with a metallic finish like this.

OPI Dark Side of the Mood turned out to be more unique than I was expecting. It actually has some very pretty hidden shimmer that you can see in sunlight and brighter indoor lighting! I thought it was just a dark charcoal creme, but it's a dark, almost asphalt grey with smooth ribbons of shimmer that make it more interesting.

This is three coats of Dark Side of the Mood. This also had a nice consistency and was easy to apply, but again, I felt like I needed three coats for full opacity.

OPI Romantically Involved is a lovely squishy true red creme. Heaven knows I don't ever need another red creme, especially since I only wear them around Christmas, but this one is so pretty! It's a real red, not too pink or orange leaning. And it's a creme, but it has that juicy quality that I love. If you're looking for a new red creme for Valentine's Day, you can't go wrong with this one!

This is just two coats and the formula was excellent. Really lovely to work with!

A Fifty Shades of Grey collection wouldn't be complete without some more grey cremes, and OPI Embrace the Gray is a slightly warm-toned medium grey creme. I like these warmer greys, so I am a fan of this one. It's probably not unique in my collection though.

This is three coats of Embrace the Gray. The formula was OK, but I noticed it looks a little uneven in places, almost like it didn't level out. That's strange for OPI, so it could have been my pre-coffee application skills. Any bubbles you see are from my top coat. I really need a new top coat for swatching!

OPI Cement the Deal is the lightest grey in the collection and my favorite of the three greys. It reminds me of seagulls and the beach before a storm in the summer! I can see myself wearing this pale storm cloud grey creme a lot and I might need to get a full size bottle!

This is just two coats of Cement the Deal. I was expecting to need three coats, since this was the palest of the bunch, but it was nicely pigmented! The formula was lovely too, easy to control and apply. Again, the pesky bubbles are from my top coat. I promise this is the last time that will happen. I am going shopping for a new swatching top coat ASAP.

OPI Shine For Me is a sheer silver shimmer with blue glitter that makes a gorgeous topper for any of the grey cremes in the collection! It's nicely sparkly and I love the touches of blue glitter.

This is two coats of Shine For Me over Cement the Deal. You could wear Shine For Me alone, but I think you'd still have a lot of VNL at three, even four coats. Besides, I really love how it looks over Cement the Deal! Shine For Me was really easy to apply, no placing the glitter or messing around with it.

My favorite of this collection is OPI Cement the Deal and I really like the combo of Shine For Me over Cement the Deal. Even if you are not a fan of the book, this is a nice little polish collection. If you love grey cremes like I do, it's especially nice! The OPI Fifty Shades of Grey collection is available now for a limited time at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Chatters, Dillard’s, Regis, ULTA and ulta.com. Fifty Shades of Grey will be in theaters on Valentine's Day weekend.

  2. I like how Shine for Me is slightly different from similar colors we've seen lately and you're right, that red is really great!
