Glitter and Be Gay This Holiday Season with Deborah Lippmann

 *Purchased by me*

It's December 1st and that means the holiday season is officially in gear! I personally like to enjoy each holiday individually, so I don't allow myself to do Christmas things until Thanksgiving is over and December has begun. Now that it is December, I can start listening to Christmas music constantly and rocking Christmas nails. I couldn't think of a better polish to kick off the season with than Deborah Lippmann Glitter and Be Gay. I am a huge fan of gold holo glitter and Glitter and Be Gay is the ULTIMATE yellow gold holo glitter polish. The glitter in this lacquer must have come from Santa himself because it is super extra sparkly and rainbow-y. There are also some scattered holo gunmetal glitter pieces mixed with the gold and I think they add extra depth and dimension.

This is about one and a half dabbed coats of Glitter and Be Gay over China Glaze Red-y and Willing. My first coat was almost enough, but I wanted to go back in fill in a few sparse areas. The base of this polish is a bit thick, but it's definitely not terrible and it's pretty much to be expected with a polish this chock full of glitter. I didn't have any application problems using the dabbing method.

Glitter and Be Gay is so stunning and perfect for the holidays. In fact, now that I started my holiday manis off with this polish, I am not sure how I am going to top this one. Maybe I should have saved this for last? I got Deborah Lippmann Glitter and Be Gay at Sephora.com.

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Dream is Really a Dream!

Base coat: one coat Zoya Get Even
Color: three coats Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Dream
Top Coat: one coat Seche Vite
Application: Good (out of poor, average, good, excellent)

Every so often, a Deborah Lippmann polish comes along that I just can't resist. Generally, I find her polishes to be overpriced and underwhelming, but this is not the case for Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Dream. Mermaid's Dream is a seafoam green metallic foil-like base filled with blue and seafoam green glitters of varying sizes. It is a very mermaid-y looking polish and has a dreamy quality about it.

Mermaid's Dream looks a bit lumpy in photos, but not so much in person. I used three coats of Mermaid's Dream and one coat of Seche on top. It did eat the Seche a bit, so I might use Gelous the next time I wear this. It needed three coats to be opaque, but it applied well and dried very quickly, so no big deal. This is definitely my favorite Deborah Lippmann polish of the small number of them I've tried!

Pink Skim Milk... Otherwise Known As Prelude to a Kiss

Deborah Lippmann Prelude to a Kiss looks just like skim milk with a tiny dash of strawberry syrup. Totally random comparison, yes, but that's what it reminds me of. A little back story on this polish, I actually won it on Twitter from Deborah Lippmann herself! I follow her, as a good polish addict should, and she one day tweeted something like "The first six people to DM me their name, address, skin tone and hair color will win a prize!". I enter giveaways like a maniac (but rarely win them), so of course I entered. I was very excited to find out that I actually won!

I always wonder, if I had a celebrity stylist, what would they tell me to wear? Or a celebrity make-up artist, what kind of make-up would they advice me to wear? Well, now I know that Deborah Lippmann would advise me to wear Prelude to a Kiss, based on my skin tone, hair color and eye color. Kinda not my kind of color, Deb!

see how streak-free it is though?

Regardless of whether this is my kind of color or not, the formula is lovely. This is three coats and for such a sheer, light polish, it is pretty streak-free. Drying time was good, and application was effortless. I will probably never wear it for long enough to tell you about the wear time though, as this is such a tame, milky color.

I'm sure many women would love this polish, and I honestly don't hate it. I just don't love it either! If you love it, it'll probably end up in my Blogsale, so you can definitely pick it up super cheap there. It would probably be great for jelly sandwiches! Deborah Lippmann does have some insanely awesome looking glitters coming out for fall, by the way. I will be getting a few of those!

Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe

Today's post features my very first experience with Deborah Lippmann polish, Across the Universe. I have been eyeing Across the Universe and it's fellow glitter buddy Bad Romance (you know I'm a little monster, so I totally want that just for the name) for quite some time. I ordered my favorite face mask from Apothica.com a few weeks ago and threw Across the Universe in the cart for fun!

Across the Universe is a deep navy blue jelly-ish polish with small blue glitter and large turquoise blue and green sequin glitter pieces. This is four coats of polish in all pictures. I understand that the base had to be a bit sheer so that the glitter wouldn't get buried, but I normally am not a fan of applying four coats. At three coats, you could see the glitter quite nicely, but for me it was odd-looking as there was SO much nail showing through. Here at four coats, the glitter is a bit less prominent, but it is more opaque.

I have to say, I am a little bit on the fence about this polish. I'll definitely wear it a lot in the fall and winter, because I love me a dark blue and it does have the nice sequin glitter in it. However, as I said, I don't like doing four coats of polish. And I wasn't really loving it at three coats. I'm not sure if I LOVE it at four coats either. I'm glad I bought this, as it's been a lemming for a LONG time, but at this point I'm not as in love with it as I thought I'd be. On a positive note, the application was excellent! Super smooth and easy. The sequins went right on the nail, I didn't have to work hard to position them like you do with other sequin polishes.
